Sevilla’s history is older than 2000 years. Many different civilizations have left their mark in this city, due to its geographical position. This monopoly was eventually broken by the port of Cadiz. Also the population was halved by the Great Plague of Seville in 1649. The kingdom of Castile, in which Sevilla belonged, began to lose its important role and influence.
